A few inches of snow before the Arctic cold, more snow this weekend

DETROIT – It is remarkable what a strong Arctic cold front can do.

At 01:30 – when I went to work from home – the temperature was in the thirties (0 to 1 degree Celsius). By noon, temperatures in most areas in their teens (-8 degrees Celsius) had plummeted, and if you calculate the wind blowing between 25 and 35 mph, the cold fever in the area is about zero (-18 degrees Celsius) .

As expected, avalanches have spread over the lake effect across the state and this is especially true in the northern half of the area.

While the National Weather Service allowed the Winter Weather Advisory to expire in time for Monroe and Lenawee County, it was extended to the rest of our counties until 7 p.m. And the flood warning for the St. Clair River lasts up to 12 hours in the afternoon, as ice blockades still cause significant flooding in some areas.

Winds will blow to between 25 and 40 km / h this afternoon, and the gusts will only drop to less than 30 km / h tonight. It will remain windy through the weekend, but not as windy as today.

The temperature will not rise today due to the air flow entering. We are staying in the teens this afternoon (-8 degrees Celsius).

Wind chills will drop to almost zero (-18 degrees Celsius) this afternoon, and this will be the beginning of a bit of bitterly cold days.

The strong winds of today blowing over the mostly open waters of Lake Michigan have caused some snowstorms on the west side of the state, which, as I mentioned above, have spread eastward into the northern half of our area. These snow tires should start to subside tonight.

If you are older or have health issues, I advise you not to try to shovel this snow. Call a snow service to do it for you, or maybe give the child $ 20 in the block to do it for you – it’s money well spent – and this message is very personal to me, as the father of ‘ a childhood friend has died of a heart attack trying to shovel a heavy, wet snow that he does not have to shovel.

Snow showers will decrease on Friday night, and it will be very cold with low low teens (-11 degrees Celsius).

Saturday cloudy and windy, with highs in the upper teens (-7 degrees Celsius), with wind colds between zero and 5 above zero (-15 to -18 degrees Celsius).

A snowstorm will traverse the area Saturday night until the first thing Sunday morning. The computer models do not completely agree on its placement, but new models only indicate the buildup for most of us. It’s a little early to get specific, but as a general view it looks like it’s going to be snow one to three inches, with the best chance of being three inches south of I-94, most of us (the central part of the area) from two to three centimeters, and areas in the far north a little more than an inch.

Lowest Saturday night around 10 degrees (-12 degrees Celsius). Highest Sunday in mid-teens (-8 degrees Celsius), with wind chills during the day on Sunday around zero (-18 degrees Celsius).

The best chance of collecting more snow is Monday night until Tuesday morning (it could be a few more centimeters – stay tuned). We get short and slightly warmer early in the week as the highs return to the low 20s (-6 degrees Celsius), but it looks like a revival of the North Pole sky is ready to return on Wednesday and beyond.

All in all, planning a very, very cold week ahead.
