A Dolly Parton statue can be erected at the Tennessee Capitol

Earlier this week, Tennessee Rep. John Mark Windle proposed erecting a Parton statue that would sit on the capital of the Capitol to recognize her for all she has contributed to this state. If commissioned, the Parton statue will face the historic Ryman Auditorium, a music venue where she played during her career.

If approved, the image will be paid for by the “Dolly Parton Fund”, which will include gifts, grants and other donations. According to Windle’s law, the public would also have a say in the design of the statue. CNN has reached out for comment at Windle and is waiting to hear back.

A sculpture by Parton would be a decidedly less controversial addition to the Tennessee State Capitol, which housed the Confederate monuments.

In June 2020, state historians removed a bust of the Confederate General and Nathan Bedford Forrest, a member of the Ku Klux Klan, from the Capitol and moved it off the site, but state lawmakers opposed the move, the Tennessean report said.

Parton did not publicly comment on the proposal. CNN has released its representatives and is waiting to hear back.

But to feel Parton’s love for her hometown, you just have to listen to her classic 1973 about her rural upbringing, “My Tennessee Mountain Home.”

‘In My Tennessee Mountain Home

Life is as quiet as a baby’s sigh

In my Tennessee mountain home

Crickets sing in the nearby fields. ‘
