A dedicated Bloodborne fan is working on a ‘demake’ of the FromSoftware PS4 title to make it look like a PS1 game.
The Bloodthirsty PSX project is currently being developed by Unreal Engine 4 Tech Artist Lilith Walther, who shares her progress on her Twitter account: @ b0tster.
This Bloodborne PSX developer starts with charging and a proper loading screen! Now that we’re jumping between levels, I need to write a storage and loading system that passes data for proper navigation 🧵 pic.twitter.com/MHhMC1ouUE16 January 2021
Lilith shared daily threads during development that showcases the latest updates on features like drawer screens, health bars, savings points and more. In a new update, the developer demonstrated the progress of visceral attacks, pointing out that it ‘made the animation a little more spicy and also allowed visceral attacks to survive.’
This version will even implement character customization. Obviously it will be ‘very scaled back compared to Bloodborne OG’, but currently has 2 different voice options. Lilith also mentions that more options will be added in the future.
Asked if this is a personal project and if she intends to release the game, Lilith confirmed that she has definite plans to release Bloodborne PSX one day.
She also said that although this game looks like it belongs on the PS1, it only mimics the style and will not actually be playable on the PS1’s hardware.
This blood supply is part of a growing trend of creators who want to see the games of the present through the lens of the past. These include such as a Cyberpunk 2077 demake, a Death Stranding demake, and an Assassin’s Creed demake, which have received a retrograde rating over the past few years.
