A Chilean has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine 2021

The Karolinska Institute has nominated Chilean scientist Ricardo Maccioni for his contributions to Alzheimer’s disease.

On both occasions the Chileans won the Nobel Prize. In 1971, the last prize awarded to Chile was awarded by the Swedish Academy in Pablo Neruda with the Nobel Prize in Literature.

In these 50 years, Chilean varias have been nominated in different categories of these prestigious awards.

This year, Dr. Ricardo Maccioni received nominations for the Nobel Prize in Medicine 2021 for his contributions to understanding Alzheimer’s disease, aspiring to be a precedent for all Latin America.

Maccioni, a 74-year-old physician, doctor of Medical Sciences of the University of Chile, and Biomedicine of the University of Colorado, has dedicated the majority of his career to the study of neuroscience, especially Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Ricardo, was reconciled with his unified theory of Alzheimer’s disease, in the year 2000, developed the first biomarker to detect the origin and temporal detection of this disease.

Currently, a study is underway on a new frontier in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s, which will be published in the journal Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, this publication plants a new integrated approach that includes preventive factors and a pharmacological reference point for the future of Alzheimer’s.
