MADISON, Wis. Democrats in the Wisconsin state legislature are proposing a bill that would create a mandate for the whole mask through the legislative process.
Democrats on Friday announced their plans to introduce a bill that would place a mask across the country, citing Republican arguments on the floor of the Assembly. order for the rest of the pandemic in place until President Joe Biden declares the national coronavirus state of emergency.
“The Republicans who voted to reverse the Wisconsin mask order swore up and down that it’s not about masks, ‘and there was dual opposition in both houses to overthrowing it, so I’m looking forward to it. strong bipartisan support for this bill, “the minority leader of the assembly, Gordon Hintz, said in a statement that he was announcing the proposal.
“Here’s the chance for Republicans to prove it,” said State Senator Jon Erpenbach of Middleton, saying those across the aisle had the opportunity to work with Democrats to put in place a masked mandate.
“Wisconsinites see it as Republicans and Democrats fighting over a mask, and collectively we need to fight the virus,” Sen Erpenbach said.
Democrats say legislation is needed if the Wisconsin Supreme Court rules against the governor’s ability to issue successive emergency orders to keep a mask mandate in place.
“You can not defeat a pandemic in court,” said Sen Erpenbach, emphasizing the importance of masks when it comes to life normal again in Wisconsin.
“If we hide the mask and we go through the vaccination, we’re going to be so much better in a few months than we are today.”
The announcement comes just before the state Senate on Friday will pass a bill on coronavirus relief.
