A number of Tesla Model S vehicles with the 2021 design refresh have been spotted leaving the Fremont factory as delivery will eventually begin.
In January, Tesla unveiled a refreshed version of the Model S and Model X that offers a new drivetrain, new interior and updated exterior design to Tesla’s two flagship electric vehicles.
When the new vehicles were introduced, CEO Elon Musk said deliveries should start within a few weeks, which should take place in February, but we are now deep into March and it has yet to start.
A few weeks ago we received an email that Musk sent to Tesla employees in which he said that the car manufacturer was still going to rebuild the Model S / X production lines, but it was “almost finished”:
‘Model S / X production lines are almost complete with the redevelopment and will aim for maximum production next term. There is a big demand, so we will have to return to two shifts soon. Recommend friends for recruitment.‘
Over the past few weeks, some refreshing Model S vehicles have been spotted at the Fremont factory, but it looks like Tesla is waiting to deliver.
Now Tesla is finally moving some of the vehicles, as a small group was seen leaving the factory on a trailer:
This may indicate that deliveries will eventually start just a few days before the end of the quarter.
The updated Model S and Model X are expected to breathe some life into the vehicle programs, which have not seen much love from Tesla in the past few years, as the carmaker has focused on Model 3 and Model Y.
Sales have been steadily declining over the past few years to now only a fraction of what they were at their peak.
As Musk noted in the same email to employees, the design update has already led to an increase in orders, and Tesla plans to build Model S and Model X on two shifts at the Fremont plant – something that will take a while was not necessary. .
As deliveries are only just beginning and full production is only expected in the next quarter, we will have to wait until the second half of the year to see what kind of Model S and Model X volumes Tesla can move.
