A Houston man accused of throwing a desk drawer and other objects at officers and smashing a window during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol has been arrested, federal authorities said. Announced Friday.
According to the FBI’s Houston office, Shane Jenkins was arrested at his home on Friday morning.
According to a criminal complaint, Jenkins attended the Washington rally in support of President Donald Trump and then joined the mob that violated the Capitol.
FBI agents identified Jenkins using a tip and videos posted on social media and security footage. They allege that he used a battle ax to damage $ 1,500 on a window and throw various objects at officers and hit them with objects such as a desk drawer and a flagpole, according to the criminal charge.
At least five people, including a Capitol police officer, were killed in the violence and two others were killed. More than 300 people have been charged with federal crimes.
Jenkins is facing six charges, including assaulting a federal officer and damaging federal property. In court records, not a lawyer for Jenkins is listed.
Authorities said Jenkins was the fourth resident of the Houston area to be charged in the riot.
According to the George Washington University Program of Extremism, federal charges were filed on February 26 against more than 254 people involved in the riot, including North Texans Garret Miller, of Richardson; Larry Rendall Brock, of Grapevine; Nolan Cooke, of Savoy; Jennifer Leigh Ryan, of Frisco; Guy Wesley Reffitt, of Wylie; Troy Anthony Smocks, of Dallas; Nicholas DeCarlo, of Burleson; Daniel Goodwyn of Corinth; Jason Hyland, of McKinney; Katherine Schwab; Luke Coffee, of Dallas; and Daniel Caldwell, of The Colony.
