SAG awards for hours-long, pre-recorded

Is this the right place? Variety reports today that the SAG Awards this year will feature an hour-long, preformed show, as opposed to the awkward remote program that other awards did during the pandemic. Perhaps the SAG Awards in response to this weekend’s Golden Globes, which are riddled with accidents, technical challenges and overall ominousness, will keep the celebrations to a minimum to maximize COVID-19 safety. The special series, which will air on TNT and TBS on April 4, features the autographs of SAG “I’m an Actor” and comic elements between 13 awards and the “In Memoriam” section, all preformed. ‘We look forward to trying to do a unique award ceremony within an hour and get people to say what they rarely do [with an awards show]”Man, I wish we had more,” said Todd Milliner, executive producer. Variety. The nominees will still be placed in awkward breakout rooms to announce the winners, but since it’s all pre-formed, they’ll know the results before the rest of the world does (but maybe we’ll still get the weird Zoom interactions before the show cuts on ads). Overall: net positive?
