CNN anchor Chris Cuomo on Monday addressed the growing scandal for sexual harassment over his brother Andrew Goomo, governor of New York, and told viewers that he would obviously not discuss it.
“I’m obviously aware of what’s going on with my brother,” said the anchor at the top of his primetime show. “And of course I can not cover it, because he is my brother.”
“Now, of course, CNN has to cover it,” the host continued. “They have discussed it extensively and will continue to do so.”
“I have always cared very deeply about these issues and have done so very deeply,” Cuomo, 50, added. “There’s a lot of news going on that also matters, so let’s get to that.”
The awkward confession comes when a third woman accuses the governor (63) of inappropriate sexual behavior.
In response to Chris Cuomo’s statement, several on Twitter said it made sense for the journalist to refrain from covering a family member.
Others, however, have noted that there does not appear to be such a conflict of interest if Andrew Cuomo is doing well.
The governor regularly performed on his younger brother’s show at the height of the coronavirus pandemic. The two will make jokes during the segments, including about Andrew’s relationship status.
CNN recently again imposed a ban on Chris to cover his brother or sister after an exclusive Post report found that his government covers thousands of COVID-19 deaths in the nursing home.
