Folk singer Peter Yarrow is accused in a new lawsuit of raping a minor girl in 1969 in a hotel room in Manhattan.
The charges were filed against Yarrow, the founding member of the legendary trio from the 60s Peter, Paul and Mary, in a case from Wednesday in the Manhattan Supreme Court that was brought under the Child Victims Act.
Prior to the alleged rape, Yarrow met his prosecutor, who was a fan of his music, several times during the performance of his group, the lawsuit reads.
After that, he ‘made interest in her’ and according to the lawsuit according to the minor thought ‘fatherly way’.
But in the case, it is alleged that the folk icon actually ‘cared’ for her.
She eventually ran away from her home in Minnesota and met Yarrow in a hotel on the Lower East Side, where he allegedly raped her.
The next day, Yarrow bought a plane ticket for the minor to Minnesota and told her to leave, the suit alleged.
According to the case, the accuser has “since” suffered from the rape of Yarrow.
She demands compensation and punitive damages.
Yarrow has in the past had a criminal conviction for taking an indecent liberty of a 14-year-old girl in 1970 in a hotel room in Washington, DC.
Messages for which Yarrow and his accused’s lawyers commented were not immediately returned.
