Heidi Cruz is ‘angry’ that texts showing her inviting neighbors about the family’s tone-deaf outing in Cancun, according to Senator Ted Cruz, who tore those responsible as ‘a-gate’, leaked to the press.
The Texas GOPer addressed his PR nightmare of a trip to Mexico on the podcast “Ruthless,” which aired Tuesday.
“I would say Heidi is angry about it,” Cruz said of the group text where she asked half her friends to flee with them to Cancun amid the “freezing” temps.
Cruz noted that he has a mix of Republican and Democratic neighbors in his exclusive River Oaks neighborhood in Houston – and said the leak is a sign of “how ridiculously politicized and nasty” people can get.
“Here’s a suggestion: just do not be a hole,” he continues. “Like, just, you know, treat each other like people have some respect.”
Cruz did damage control after he was caught flying to Cancun with his wife and two daughters on Wednesday, days after Texas was paralyzed by a one-time winter storm.
The senator was forced to cut short his trip, fly back home the next day and apologize.
Cruz was scrutinized over the optics of the mini-holiday – and because he left the family pool, Snowflake, alone at home without power or heat.
“Apparently I fed Snowflake to the wolves,” Cruz said, shaking off the setback. “He was at home with a dog sitter. The heat turned on again. The whole thing is a little absurd. ”
He also slammed the media for publishing snapshots of Heidi in her bikini on the beach.
“I’ll tell you she’s pissed,” he said.
At the beginning of his interview on the podcast, Cruz cracked down on the years-long joke that he is the infamous Zodiac Killer who terrorized the Golden State decades ago.
“Look, I’ve not had that much negative press coverage since Northern California in the 1960s,” he cracked.
