The NCAA will allow a limited number of fans at each round of this year’s NCAA men’s tournament, it announced Friday.
Up to 25% capacity with physical distance is allowed during all rounds, including the Final Four, a decision made in collaboration with the state and local health authorities in Indiana. The 25% will include all participants, staff and family members as well as fans. Masks and physical distance must be required.
“We continue to use the knowledge we have gained during the season on how to keep games in a safe environment,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement.
The entire tournament takes place in and around Indianapolis. The teams will be housed in hotels in the Indiana Convention Center, which will be used as a training facility.
“This year’s tournament will be like no other, and although we know it will be the same for no one, we look forward to providing an unforgettable experience for the student-athletes, coaches and supporters who once entered.” a lifelong tournament, ”said Dan Gavitt, senior vice president of basketball. “After the cancellation of the 2020 tournament, we are pleased to welcome some fans in all rounds of Division I’s men’s basketball tournament.”
The Final Four is being held at Lucas Oil Stadium, with earlier rounds at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indiana Farmers Coliseum, plus Mackey Arena in West Lafayette and Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
At the meeting hall, 500 spectators can attend games held there, Indiana University said.
Selection Sunday is on March 14, with the Final Four taking place on April 3 and 5.
