The first death of COVID-19 in San Diego County was confirmed Friday by the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA). The patient was a ten-year-old boy with underlying health conditions.
His death was marked as “another sad milestone” amid the coronavirus pandemic, which took the lives of more than 450,000 people in the U.S., 43,000 in California and 2,700 in San Diego County.
“Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this child,” said Dr. Wilma Wooten, provincial public health officer, said. “The death of this boy is a grim reminder that this pandemic is affecting everyone in our community, regardless of their age, and we must do everything in our power to protect each other and slow down the spread of the virus.”
The province reported only two COVID-19 deaths involving patients between the ages of 10 and 19, and none between 0 and 9. These two deaths account for approximately, 1% of the 2,777 deaths in the province.
