Chiefs assistant admits he drank before the I-435 accident which injured 2 children, 1 seriously

KANSAS CITY, Ma. Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid was involved in a multi-vehicle accident that injured two young children less than two days before the team would leave for Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida.

Reid, 35, who is Andy Reid’s son of Chiefs, has worked on the team’s coaching staff since his father arrived there before the 2013 season.

The Chiefs confirmed in a statement to 41 Action News on Friday that Reid was involved in an accident on Thursday night.

‘The organization was made aware of an accident with multiple vehicles in which Britt Reid, the Outside Linebackers Coach, was involved. We are gathering information, and we will not comment further at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved. ”

The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday on southern Interstate 435 near Eastwood Trafficway, which is one exit south of the Chiefs’ training facility at the Truman Sports Complex.

According to Kansas City, Missouri police, a gasoline-powered Chevrolet Impala ran on the driveway from Stadium Drive to I-435.

The driver called the family for help, who arrived in a Chevrolet Traverse and parked in front of the disabled car.

While trying to get the vehicle running again, a white Dodge Ram Laramie Sport pickup truck traveling in the driveway – which Britt Reid admitted to police he was driving, according to a search warrant – the hit left front of the stranded Impala.

The driver of the trapped vehicle was in the car at the time and was not injured, but the Ram truck went forward and also hit the right side of the Traverse.

A 5-year-old child in the back seat of the Traverse sustained life-threatening injuries, and a 4-year-old, also in the back seat, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to KCPD.

Both children were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

An adult passenger in the front seat of the Traverse was not injured in the crash. Reid sustained non-life-threatening injuries, investigators said.

According to KCPD, investigators tried to determine if the driver’s deterioration was a factor in the crash, which closed three of the interstate’s four lanes.

According to a warrant filed just before midnight on Thursday, a KCPD official said they could smell a moderate odor of alcohol and that Britt Reid’s eyes were blood red and red.

According to the application for a warrant, Britt Reid told the officer that he drank two to three drinks. He also said he took Adderall on prescription.

The officer wrote in the warrant that he noticed signs of weakness, after which Reid complained of stomach pain and was transported to an area hospital.

At the hospital, the officer requested a blood supply from Britt Reid and a Jackson County judge approved the request. The warrant application also refers to a “disclosing a computer check … several previous DUI contacts.”

Law enforcement also closed the ramps from I-70 to south I-435, along with other interstate ramps in the area to investigate and clean up the wreckage.

The Chiefs plan to leave for Tampa on Saturday, where Kansas City will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl LV at Raymond James Stadium.

Britt Reid is not expected to travel with the team, according to a report by Jason La Canfora.

Britt Reid, a graduate of Temple University, was a training camp intern for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009 in Andy’s staff. He spent the next two years as a graduate assistant at his alma mater before joining the Chiefs staff in 2013.

Britt Reid spent his first two seasons in Kansas City as a defensive coach for quality control. He was promoted to assistant coach for the defensive line in 2015.

Britt Reid served as Chiefs’ defensive coach during 2016-’18 before switching to the lineout balance coach for the past two seasons.

Britt Reid was arrested on January 30, 2007 for pointing a gun at another driver during an incident in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, according to ESPN.

He pleaded guilty later that year to carry an unlicensed firearm, an offense and other offenses, with a prison sentence of eight to 23 months plus five years probation.
