The source said it was a ‘point’ of Unanue talking to the press not only about politics but also about the company itself.
According to the source, a majority of Goya shareholders are in favor of removing Unanue, but this has been hampered by the dynamics of the family-owned company.
“The company has never been political or politicized,” the source said. “He went from bad CEO to CEO who endangered the future of the company and endangered the lives of some of the shareholders,” the source said, referring to Unanue family members who allegedly received threats has due to the comments of the CEO.
“His statements are insulting and dangerous,” the source said.
Unanue spoke to the New York Post after the council’s action, but did not directly discuss its misconception or the media ban. He confirmed that he would no longer speak in public about politics or religion.
“Independently, I decided to lower the temperature and talk away from politics and religion,” he told the Post. “I realize this is important because of the differing views of the company and our market.”
A history of controversy
On the inauguration day, shortly after President Trump made his farewell remarks, Unanue appeared on Fox Business’s morning program, telling anchor Maria Bartiromo that there was a “war coming” and that President Joe Biden’s election was “not verified.”
“They have achieved what they set out to do to oust President Trump,” he said. ‘I think it’s being achieved by the unions, the partnership, the conglomerate of social media, big technology, big media and big government … There’s a war coming, now that the president is leaving today, they’re still coming to the United States, the working class. ‘
Unanue started the controversy in July when he appeared at an event in the White House, saying: ‘We are all blessed … to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder. We have an amazing builder and we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president. ‘
Unanue and Goya said at the time that he was in the White House to announce the donation of millions of cans of Goya products to food banks.
Setback
‘It’s hard to really say [the controversy hurt sales] but the sales growth is less than what was said in the Rose Garden before him, ‘the source said.
Goya did not respond to CNN’s requests for comment. The company, founded in 1936 by Don Prudencio Unanue and his wife, Carolina, now has more than 4,000 employees in 26 facilities in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Spain, according to the company’s website.
