“There were irregularities in this election,” Sen Hawley claims. “There was fraud. No one disputes that.”
The Republican objections would force Congress to vote on the certification.
Herrell’s campaign said the congresswoman would “object to shed light on the numerous cases of irregularities and illegal procedures used by various state governments during the election.”
According to the campaign, she objects because “millions of Americans feel that this election did not take place with integrity and fairness.”
Allegations of voter fraud were not successful in court.
The chairman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico criticized Herrell’s position, saying, “It is extremely irresponsible for an incoming congresswoman to spread dangerous misinformation.”
NBC News reports that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is privately telling his fellow Republicans not to challenge the election result, as it could hurt non-voting GOP lawmakers.
Some moderate Republicans have said they will not support the effort.

The attempt to overthrow the election results is not expected to be successful.
The US House and the US Senate will both have to vote to cast the ballot box of the Electoral College. However, Democrats control the House and do not plan to contest Biden’s victory.
