Nine nuns in a convent in New York died in just over a month from causes related to COVID-19.
The nuns, according to the Albany Times Union, joined the Sisters of St. Joseph or Carondelet lived in Latham.
“Four of the deaths related to the township were reported by hospitals earlier this month,” Albany County Health Commissioner Elizabeth Whalen told the newspaper in a statement. “The other five were not reported by the Albany County Department of Health.”
According to the website, there are about 140 nuns in the convent.
Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet said on December 11 that 22 of the sisters tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a memo obtained by NBC affiliate WNYT.
In December, eight nuns died in a Wisconsin convent in the same week of COVID-19 complications; four of them die on the same day.
