9 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Shanghai, including 6 shipped locally

The city reported six new local coronavirus cases and three imported cases on Thursday, the Shanghai Health Commission said on Friday morning.

The first local patient lives in Huangpu District and tested positive for COVID-19 during regular nucleic acid tests performed by the hospital for which he works.

The second patient also lives in Huangpu District and is the neighbor of the first patient.

The third patient is a friend of the first patient and tested positive when the first patient’s close contacts were selected.

The fourth patient is a relative of the second patient and tested positive when the second patient’s close contacts were selected.

The fifth patient is a guest living in the hotel where the third patient works.

The sixth patient works with the third patient at the same hotel in Huangpu District.

The 74 close contacts were quarantined and observed at the designated places.

So far of all the 355 local cases, 342 have been discharged after recovery and six have been admitted to hospital. No suspected local cases were reported. There have been seven local deaths so far.

Among the three imported patients, the first one is Chinese who are studying in the US and arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on January 19th.

The second patient is a Chinese who is studying in Switzerland and arrived at the airport in Shanghai on January 18.

The third patient is a Chinese working in India and arrived at the airport in Shanghai on January 19.

All the newly imported cases were transferred to the designated hospital for treatment, while 72 close contacts were placed under quarantine and could be observed at designated locations.

Meanwhile, four imported patients were discharged after recovery.

Five entered suspected cases are currently being tested.

So far, 1,175 of the 1,269 imported cases have been discharged after recovery and 94 are still hospitalized.

No asymptomatic cases of infection are now being medically observed, the local health commission said.
