  • Allegedly, Samsung will focus on the Galaxy S21 base rather than its more expensive siblings.
  • He devoted 60% of his production capacity to the vanilla model.
  • It will also reportedly drop the prices of the Galaxy S21 series in South Korea to below the Galaxy S20 line.

After years of gradually raising the flagship price tag of the flagships and pushing its higher models, Samsung can finally make a comeback with the Galaxy S21 series. According to a report from Korea, the local price of its next flagship line drops significantly, while they bet on the most affordable candidate to lead the line.

ETNews reports that Samsung hopes the Galaxy S21 model will be its biggest seller. It will apparently also dump most of its factory resources into the base model and allocate 60% of its production capacity to the cheapest S21 device. It is said that Samsung will also lower the price of this model to 990,000 won (~ $ 909) – a reasonable decrease compared to the 1,248 million won (~ $ 1,146) Galaxy S20.

This price reduction strategy will apparently continue throughout the rest of the series. The Galaxy S21 Plus will also be cheaper in South Korea than the Galaxy S20 Plus and according to the report it will cost 1.999 million won (~ $ 1044). The Galaxy S21 Ultra will sell for 1,595 million won (~ $ 1,469). Both models are about 100,000 won cheaper than their predecessors.

Galaxy S21 production: the base is the best?

Samsung Galaxy S20 back in hand

The reason for the adjusted price and production pressure is to contain the iPhone 12 series and fill the gap in the market left by Huawei ETNews. Samsung can also be encouraged by the popularity of the Galaxy S20 FE – a key device in the company’s cheaper flagship smartphone print.

One could argue that Samsung’s new focus on the cheaper model emphasizes the irrelevance of the Plus and Ultra models, but both variants still have their own features. Samsung’s Ultra model is probably the only option in the Galaxy S21 series with a 108MP camera, a 5,000mAh battery and S Pen support. According to rumors, the Plus model will also boast an improvement of the battery up to 4,800 mAh. Both of these models also make the base of the Galaxy S21 an attractive offering as price, not features, are the biggest concern.

It is unclear whether the company will drop the prices of the Galaxy S21 series in a similar way in other world markets, but more will be announced by the launch of the device line on January 14, 2021.
