595 COVID-19 patients were admitted to the hospital; SAWS says 80% of cooking notice for San Antonio has been lifted

SAN ANTONIO San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has briefed the community on the local response to COVID-19 and the aftermath of the winter weather in an information session Sunday night.

Mayor Nirenberg has received some information about cases of coronavirus in Bexar County. On Saturday, Nirenberg reported 77 cases of coronavirus and no new deaths. However, the small numbers can be attributed to the lack of government data due to the winter storm last week.

The mayor also reported that 595 patients were admitted to the hospital, which is less than Saturday, 232 in the intensive care unit and 137 in ventilators.

In the past 24 hours, there have been 82 admissions to the hospital, Nirenberg said.

CPS Energy

According to Mayor Nirenberg, all but 14 of the households were restored.

For customers worried about their next utility bill, Nirenberg said the energy company has currently suspended auto payment for all customers.

Customers do not have to call to pay their bill. However, call CPS Energy at 210-353-2222 if your auto-paid payment has already gone through.

San Antonio Water System

Robert Puente, CEO of San Antonio Water System, announced during the briefing on Sunday that 100% of its surface has water.

By about 6 p.m., Puente said more than 80 percent of the city was no longer under the boiling water notice. This means that customers who are exempt from the notice no longer have to boil water before consumption.

Those still under the boiling water notice are expected to be cleaned up Monday, according to Puente.
