590 more COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths, 34K vaccinations reported in Utah on Wednesday

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s COVID-19 cases increased by 590 on Wednesday, with three more deaths and 34,472 vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

The Department of Health estimates that there are now 8,552 active cases of the disease in Utah. According to the Department of Health, the average number of positive cases of seven days per day is now 384. The positive test rate per day for the period calculated using the “people over people” method is now 6.2%. The positive test rate per day for the period calculated using the “test over test” method is now 3%.

There are currently 146 COVID-19 patients admitted to Utah, including 58 in intensive care. About 61% of all hospital beds for intensive care units in Utah are occupied, while approximately 65% ​​of the ICU beds are occupied in the 16 referral hospitals in the state. About 51% of all non-ICU hospital beds are inhabited in the state, state data shows.

A total of 1,950,894 doses of vaccines were administered in the state, compared to 1,916,922 on Tuesday. A total of 1,217,167 Utahns have now received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 819,683 have now been fully vaccinated. A total of 2,180,690 doses of vaccine have been sent to Utah so far.

About 51.2% of the vaccines eligible for Utahns aged 16 and over have now received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 34.5% of the population eligible for vaccine are now fully vaccinated. About 38% of the total population of Utah, including children under the age of 16 who are not eligible for the vaccine, have now received at least one dose and 25.6% of the population are now fully vaccinated.

The new numbers point to a 0.2% increase in positive cases since Wednesday. Of the 2,505,996 people tested to date for COVID-19 in Utah, 15.7% tested positive for the disease. The number of tests carried out since the start of the pandemic is now 4,525,584, which has risen by 15,496 since Tuesday. Of those, 4,057 were tests of people who had not been tested for COVID-19 before, according to the Department of Health.

The three deaths reported on Wednesday were:

  • A woman in Utah County who was between the ages of 25 and 44 and was hospitalized when she died

Out of Wednesday’s total cases, 393,862 were confirmed cases in Utah, with 15,981 total hospitalizations and 2,177 total deaths due to the disease. According to the Department of Health, 383,133 COVID-19 cases in Utah are now considered recovery.

The Utah government, Spencer Cox and Lieutenant General Deidre Henderson, will deliver an update on the COVID-19 pandemic on Thursday, 11 a.m. at 11 p.m.
