SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s COVID-19 cases increased by 519 on Friday, with two more deaths and 30,300 vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The state now estimates that there are 12,601 active cases of the disease in Utah. According to the Department of Health, the current average number of positive cases of seven days per day is now at 519. The positive test rate per day for the period reported using the “people over people” method is now 8.4%. The positive test rate per day of seven days, calculated using the ‘test over test’ method, is now 4%.
There are 184 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 67 in intensive care. About 69% of the intensive care units in Utah are filled, including about 72% of the ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals, according to the Department of Health. About 55% of the non-ICU hospital beds in Utah are now filled, state data shows.
A total of 967,481 vaccines were administered in the state, compared to 936,681 on Thursday. There are now 641,951 Utahns who have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 348,650 have now been fully vaccinated, according to state data. A total of 1,157,345 vaccine doses have now been sent to Utah.
The new numbers point to a 0.1% increase in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,279,263 people tested so far for COVID-19 in Utah, 16.6% tested positive for the disease. The number of tests carried out since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,984,895, up from 13,535 since Thursday. Of these, 5,780 were tests from people who had not been tested for COVID-19 before.
The two deaths reported Friday were both men in Salt Lake County who were admitted to the hospital when they died. One was older than 85 and the other was between the ages of 45 and 64, according to the health department.
Friday’s total gives 377,492 confirmed cases in Utah, with 15,049 hospitalizations and 2,017 total deaths due to the disease. A total of 362,874 COVID-19 cases in Utah are now considered recovery, according to state data.
The Utah government, Spencer Cox, provided an update to the COVID-19 at a news conference on Thursday.
