5,000 new COVID cases in Alabama since yesterday

Alabama posted one of its highest COVID increases per day this morning.

The Alabama Department of Public Health’s numbers on Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. show that the state has had 356,820 cases of coronavirus since March, adding 5,016 since yesterday. ADPH reported no backlog of older test results, but the daily number of cases was lower than average in the days after Christmas, only to be recorded again today.

The state added 37 deaths to bring the total to 4,774.

A record number of people – 2,804 – were hospitalized with COVID. The state updated the recoveries to 202,137.
