5. Microsoft Acquires Advanced Talks to Buy Nuance for About $ 16 Billion

Microsoft is in advanced talks to buy the speech recognition firm Nuance Communications, a person familiar with the discussions told CNBC. The person can immediately announce a transaction, adding that Microsoft is willing to pay about $ 56 per share. Shares of Nuance rose nearly 24% to more than $ 56 in Monday’s presale. By buying Nuance, Microsoft could expand its ability to expand voice applications.
