4,406 new cases, 26 new deaths reported in Orange County on January 2 – Orange County Register

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 4,406 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, January 2, increasing the cumulative total in the country to 161,589 cases since the detection began.

26 deaths were reported across the country on Saturday, raising the total number of deaths to 1,901. The most recent death was recorded on December 26th.

The province also reported 2,097 patients in the local hospitals with the coronavirus on Saturday. This is a decrease of 31 patients compared to Thursday’s report.

The country did not update the figures on Friday, January 1st. The figures are presented here and will not be updated on Sunday, January 3, due to scheduled maintenance to the California Department of Public Health.

On Saturday, 501 patients were listed in intensive care units as the capacity of the ICU in Southern California diminishes. The percentages here have been adjusted by public health officials to represent the high levels of COVID-19 patients among all ICU patients. More real beds may be available.

It is estimated that 38,161 cases of the virus have been recorded in Orange County in the past 14 days.

According to the provincial update, 2,076,496 tests for the coronavirus have been taken since the test was local, with at least 23,385 new tests since the previous report.

Of the cumulative 1,901 deaths reported by the virus, 640 were competent nursing homes, 183 were in shelters and four were listed as homeless.

The province’s death rate by age is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 33.77% (623)
  • 75-84: 22.3% (424)
  • 65-74: 19.46% (370)
  • 55-64: 13.83% (263)
  • 45-54: 7.52% (143)
  • 35-44: 2.37% (45)
  • 25-34: 1.42% (27)
  • 18-24: 0.26% (5)
  • 17 and younger: 0.05% (1)

The data on deaths in the country has been compiled from death certificates or has been collected through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process, officials said.

It is estimated that approximately 91.69 people recovered as of Saturday. The number of people who recovered is based on the previous cumulative case of 28 days.

The data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials stressed. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
