Forty-four new deaths were reported by the province on Sunday, increasing the total number of COVID deaths to 3,062. More than one-third of the reported deaths, 1,187, were in January.
The data on deaths in the country are compiled from death certificates or collected through the course of case investigations and it can take weeks to process. The most recent death was recorded on January 22nd.
The Orange County Health Agency reported 1,355 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday, Jan. 31, increasing the cumulative total in the country to 232,391 cases since detection began.
The province also reported 1,412 patients in local hospitals, which is 30 less than the previous report. On Sunday, 392 patients were listed in intensive care units, two less than in Saturday’s report. The hospital patient totals are about the same as where they were in mid-December.
It is estimated that 21,578 cases of the virus have been recorded in Orange County in the past 14 days.
According to the provincial update, 2,681,673 tests for the coronavirus have been given since testing began locally, with at least 16,044 new tests since the previous report.
Of the cumulative 3,062 deaths reported by the virus, 830 were competent residents of the nursing home, 329 were in shelters, one was a prisoner in the OC and five were listed as homeless.
The province’s death rate by age is as follows:
- 85 and older: 33.96% (1,040, higher than 14)
- 75-84: 23.22% (711, higher 7)
- 65-74: 19.37% (593, higher 10)
- 55-64: 13.26% (406, higher 5)
- 45-54: 6.56% (201, higher 2)
- 35-44: 2.32% (71, higher 6)
- 25-34: 1.08% (33)
- 18-24: 0.2% (6)
- 17 and younger: 0.03% (1)
It is estimated that 175,513 people have recovered from the virus since Sunday. The number of people who recovered is based on the previous count of 28 days.
The data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials stressed. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
