BOONE COUNTY, W.Va (WDTV) – According to the West Virginia National Guard press release, 42 people were given the Regeneron antibody product instead of the Moderna vaccine.
This incident occurred at a vaccination clinic hosted by Boone County Health Department staff.
According to the release, medical experts from the Joint Interagency Task Force do not believe that the 42 individuals could pose a danger.
The Regeneron antibody product the individuals received was the same as that administered to President Trump when he was infected, according to the state’s COVID-19 tsar dr. Clay Marsh.
All individuals who have received the antibody have been contacted, or are being contacted. The DHHR will also follow up regularly with all individuals who have received the antibody as an extra precaution. These individuals will be offered the vaccine as soon as possible with a priority status.
“The moment we were notified of what had happened, we acted immediately to rectify it. We immediately reviewed and strengthened our protocols to improve our distribution process to prevent it from happening again,” said Genl. .maj. James Hoyer, adjutant general, said. of the West Virginia National Guard. “I remain incredibly proud of everything our team has accomplished. Our biggest goal was to save lives, and as we continue to increase the spread of the vaccine across the state, we continue to save more and more lives every day. ”
