4-year-old man killed in car accident on US 23 in Livingston County

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) – A 4-year-old girl from North Carolina was killed in a car accident on Friday while traveling with her family.

On Friday, Jan. 1, around 11 p.m., delegates at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the northbound US 23 south of Highland Road over the report of a single accident with possible injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 36-year-old father from Fayetteville, North Carolina, was driving a Ford Expedition north in 2006 when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the lane and hit several trees. The man’s 33-year-old wife, 8-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, deputies said.

During the accident, the driver’s 4-year-old daughter was put out of the vehicle and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. According to police, the other occupants in the vehicle were taken out by Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority personnel and taken to the University of Michigan Hospital for treatment of injuries.

According to the Sheriff’s Office of Livingston County, it appears that speed and alcohol are factors in the accident.

This incident is still under investigation.
