The first Inside Infinite update of 2021, 343 Industries spoke to the sandbox team about custom weapons and new vehicles in Halo Infinite.
Halo developer 343 Industries has released new information regarding Halo Infinite‘s sandbox, including possible changes to beloved weapons and vehicles. Xbox’s distinctive first-person shooter franchise has some of the most iconic weapons and vehicles in game history, from the Needler’s purple nails to the front teeth and the Warthog’s mounted machine gun. Original developer Bungie got things right in the first game in such a way that it’s hard to make significant changes to the sandbox that has stood the test of time. For every Spartan laser and energy sword, there is a Trip Mine, Focus Rifle or Brute Prowler that ends up as a footnote in franchise history.

Halo Infinite will try again to shake things up, and players have already seen some changes in the initial game wagon. Master Chief uses a smaller rifle called the Bulldog and an automatic rifle called the Commando. He also has the ability to pick up equipment for the first time since Halo 3, which boasts a wrestling heel and a deployable energy shield. He can even use the former to grab merger spirals and throw at groups of enemies with explosive results.
All of these new additions are thanks to the 343 sandbox team, and that’s the focus of this month’s promised Inside Infinite update. In a long discussion with Halo community director Brian Jarrard, the team goes into consideration with each addition to a Halo game’s sandbox, and try to explain some of the changes already announced. For example, the Bulldog is an attempt to import a rifle that is not a power weapon and that under certain circumstances could conceivably be something with which Master Chief died. They also mention that the original shotgun is not gone forever and can return via game updates such as the original Rocket Launcher and Halo 1 pistol in Halo 5: Guardians.
At the front of the vehicle, Brian Berryhill gives a strong indication of a new additive using flamethrowers or other firearms. It was a rarity in Halo to date, with flame appearing in only two matches as a standard weapon via the M7057 Flamethrower. The Flamethrower has never been mounted on a vehicle outside the world Halo Wars, and the game already borrows in other areas from the series. There are also hints that a weapon that has been in the series since the original game will get a remake, a statement that may also apply to the classic instrument of destruction.
The full Inside Infinite update is worth reading for anyone waiting patiently Halo Infinite‘s autumn debut, especially those interested in Master Arsenal’s arsenal. Any given Halo game’s weapon choice can define it just as much as the setting, enemy scheme or even graphic skill. This is one of the reasons why Halo 5‘s multiplayer was so well received; it included weapons from across the franchise and gave players numerous options. Here is the hope that the large open-world scope of Never ending will give players the same luxury.
Halo Infinite is planned on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S to be released in the fall of 2021.
