Despite questions about President Joe Biden’s mental fitness continuing during the 2020 campaign, most Americans say he’s on point, while 33% say they are dissatisfied with his mental acuity, a new Insider poll has found .

On February 22, Insider surveyed a nationwide sample of 1,154 Americans in association with SurveyMonkey with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

The poll revealed that Biden (78) has the support of 61% of Americans if he wants to.

The president maintains these numbers despite former president Donald Trump, who devotes much of his campaign to portraying Biden as senile, with Trump even going so far as to demand that Biden take a cognitive test and that he should be tested for performance-enhancing drugs after a stronger debate performance. against Bernie Sanders.

Those Trump attacks accidentally benefited Biden by lowering expectations for his speeches and debates, but the president’s age left an opening for less hyperbolic questions.

Those who completed Insider’s SurveyMonkey Audience poll were asked, “How confident do you feel about President Biden’s spiritual acumen and ability to do the job of president?”

  • 24% said they are “very confident.”
  • Nearly 20% said they were “very confident.”
  • 17.7% said they were just ‘somewhat confident’.
  • 10.8% said they were “not so confident.”
  • 22.8% said they were “not confident at all.”
  • Nearly 5% said they “do not know.”

Age and party affiliation apparently influenced people’s reactions:

  • 31% of respondents over the age of 60 said they were “not at all confident” in Biden’s ability to carry out his duties as president.
    • Only 12% of those between 18 and 29 years old held the same opinion.
  • 50% of those who said they were likely to vote in their state’s Republican primary or caucuses said they were “not at all confident” in Biden’s mental acuity, the highest of any demographic we have followed.
  • Nearly 70% of likely Democratic primary voters said they were ‘extremely confident’ or ‘very confident’ in Biden’s knowledge and ability to do the job.
