NVIDIA’s recently announced CMP series of graphics cards dedicated to cryptocurrency mining has been launched since the first quarter of 2021. The graphics cards are built to order, which means orders have to be placed before being sent to customers, even though. Hungarian Customs authorities seized 300 CMP 30HX graphics cards en route to mining sites in China.
300 NVIDIA CMP 30HX graphics cards for mining mining Seized by Customs in Hong Kong, were on their way to Chinese mining farms
NVIDIA in an effort to combat the shortage of GeForce graphics cards has announced the CMP or Crypto Mining Processor series. The company also tried to limit the hash rate of its latest GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, although we know how it did. Yet the NVIDIA CMP series of crypto-miners offer a direct way to order large-scale graphics cards that will be used primarily for mining operations.
A report has now emerged at MyDrivers that the Customs authorities in Hong Kong have seized 300 NVIDIA CMP 30HX graphics cards. The graphics cards are marked as smuggled units and are allegedly on their way to Chinese mines. Note that China still has a ban on mining operations in Cryptocurrency being implemented in several provinces so that it can explain what just happened here, otherwise there is no other logical reason for using such a large amount of GPUs. Chinese miners have also been the cause of serious power outages in Iran and have caused power outages in Inner Mongolia as they try to circumvent the mining restrictions imposed on their own country.
NVIDIA CMP 50HX, 40HX, 30HX With Turing GPUs
The NVIDIA CMP 30HX, 40HX and 50HX are all based on the Turing architecture with 12 nm silicone. The 50HX is based on the TU102 GPU-100 GPU and has a board that is very similar to the PG150 seen on the RTX 2080 Ti. It has 10 GB of memory. The 40HX is based on the TU106-100 GPU and the PG161 board. It has 8 GB of memory. The 30HX is based on the TU116-100 and PG161 board. It has 6 GB of memory. The 30HX and 40HX were both confirmed by the driver update. The 50HX and 90HX are expected to be launched in the second quarter of this year.
As for the cards themselves, these appear to be NVIDIA CMP 30X models that have a standard design with dual slot and dual fan. The cards have no display outputs and have a cooling plate on aluminum fin that is actively cooled by the fans. The CMP 30HX was recently listed for more than $ 723 US, but it was just one retailer. The direct selling cost of the graphics card is very low compared to what you would pay for a single unit in a store.
