BYU fended off Pepperdine’s return attempt with an 8-0 run to close out the match.
Here are three take-aways from BYU’s victory:
- The Cougars led by as many as 16 in the second half, but Pepperdine went on a 12-0 run and narrowed the gap to three points by just under five minutes into the game. BYU was able to sharpen matters after the return of the Waves, with an 8-0 run to close out the game. Alex Barcello, Matt Haarms and Kolby Lee all passed for the Cougars.
- BYU’s defense performed well during most of the game on Saturday. The Cougars kept the Waves at no point during the final 4:50 of the game. BYU limited Pepperdine to 26 points to 21.9% and 28.8% overall in the first half.
- BYU’s leading scorer Alex Barcello had an exceptionally quiet night. He lost part of his tooth during the match. He did not make a goal from the field, but 0 for 7 from the field, but at the end of the game he made four important free throws.
