Three new Democratic senators are sworn in after President Joe Biden’s election Wednesday.

The arrival of Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff of Georgia and Alex Padilla of California will give the Democrats a working majority in the Senate – split 50-50, with new Vice President Kamala Harris as the tie.

A person who gave anonymity to discuss the planning tells The Associated Press that Harris will take the oath of office to the three Democrats after she was sworn in as vice president during the inauguration.

Warnock and Ossoff defeated Republican senators earlier this month. Georgia’s foreign minister is expected to confirm the results on Tuesday.

Padilla was used by the governor of California to fill Harris’ remaining term in the Senate.

Two members of the U.S. Army’s National Guard are removed from the security mission to secure Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration. A U.S. military official and a senior U.S. intelligence official say the two members of the National Guard have been linked to right-wing group militias.

No conspiracy against Biden was found.

The army official and the intelligence officer spoke to The Associated Press about the condition of anonymity due to media regulations of the Department of Defense. They did not say to which fringe group the Guard members belong or in which unit they serve.

The National Watch Bureau contacted the AP on Tuesday, referring questions to the U.S. Secret Service, saying, “Due to operational security, we are not discussing the process or outcome of the investigation into military members supporting the inauguration. ”

The secret service told the AP on Monday that it would not comment on any members of the National Guard to secure the operation for security reasons.

Before his inauguration as president on Wednesday, Joe Biden will strike a unifying theme by worshiping with Congress’ top four Republican and Democratic leaders.

The elected Democratic president spoke throughout the campaign and the period after the election about his goal of uniting a sharply divided country.

Spokesmen for Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell and McCarthy confirm that they are accompanying Biden.

Sen. Chris Coons tells CNN that church service “is an important part of respecting tradition.” ‘

Coons is a Democrat from Biden’s home state of Delaware. He says the service is a “reminder of who Joe is and who we are as a hopeful and optimistic nation.”
