According to the sheriff of Volusia province, a man was searching in an armed car hijacking in Orange County. The man, whose name and age have not been released, died in an accident with an SUV, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the SUV, a 21-year-old man from Wisconsin, and his 18-year-old sister, a passenger in the front seat, were also killed in the crash, the FHP said. A 17-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, who also drove in the SUV, sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital, according to a report from the FHP. The FHP wore all four of their seat belts.

Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators said before the accident, the alleged driver chased away Flagler County deputies, turned off his lights and entered Volusia Province.

Officials said when the man entered the province of Volusia, delegates from the sheriff’s office pursued him. According to the sheriff, the man made a detour on Interstate 95 and delegates ended the pursuit and tried to stop the oncoming southbound traffic.

Delegates said the man was then heading north into the southern lanes and hit the SUV near exit 260A.

Both drivers and the 18-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

One survivor was airlifted to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for children and the other was transported to Halifax Health.

Details about the armed car hijacking, including when it took place, were not disclosed.

An investigation is underway.
