3 found dead in Dallas after SWAT absence

Three people were found dead Sunday night due to gunshot wounds after a SWAT stop at an apartment complex in Texas, authorities said.

According to Dallas police, officers responded to a report of an active shooter around 4:30 p.m. When officers arrived there, a shooter fired a gun and struck their group, police said.

The officers withdrew and, according to police, immediately asked for Dallas SWAT.

Dallas police said the SWAT officers tried to communicate with the shooter, but their attempts were unsuccessful. At 7 p.m., they entered the residence where they found the bodies of two women and one man who succumbed to apparent gunshot wounds, police said. The victims were not publicly identified.

Police said it does not appear that officers opened fire and also no officers were injured.

An investigation is continuing, police said. No other details were immediately available.
