3 dead, including suspect, in shooting near New Orleans airport: sheriff

Authorities in Louisiana are investigating a shooting that killed three people, including the suspect, and injured two along the road at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

“Oncoming deputies have identified several victims suffering from gunshot wounds,” the sheriff said in a statement. “Three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene and two more were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The two transported are in a stable condition.”

According to authorities, it happened near an arms store on 6700 Street of Airline Drive in Metairie, La, just west of New Orleans. Armed bystanders helped subdue the armed man.

“At the moment, it appears that a suspect shot 2 victims inside the location, and was subsequently shot by several other individuals outside the location,” the sheriff’s statement continued. “The suspect is one of the dead at the scene.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in New Orleans said it was sending special agents to help local delegates with the investigation.
