3 dead after small plane crashes into Oakland County home, sheriff says

NEW HUDSON, MI – Three people were killed after a small plane crashed into a New Hudson home and set the structure on fire, police said.

The three who died were presumably the pilot of the plane and two passengers, according to a tweet from Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard.

The plane crashed in a residential area just west of Pontiac Trail and Grand River Avenue, in the Orchards of Lyon section, before 4pm on Saturday, January 2nd. The house is on Dakota Drive.

Firefighters from the municipality of Lyon respond to extinguish the flames. Initially, it was reported that the house was completely engulfed in flames.

According to Bouchard’s office, everyone in the house is believed to be outside.

The area is just a short distance from Oakland / Southwest Airport along the Pontiac Trail.

Photos posted on the Lyon Township Fire Department’s Facebook page show the plane hit the side of the house. The wreckage is lying on the ground and it looks like the front of the plane is inside a portion of the house.
