290 people who tested positive for Covid died in North-North hospitals in February

The latest figures show that so far in February, 290 people who tested coronavirus positively died.

According to data published by NHS England on Sunday, most deaths were in hospitals in the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, with a figure of 84.

The Trust’s sites include South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital.

This was followed by 75 deaths in the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which includes the Northumbria Special Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington, and 65 in the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

The figures cover a period between 1 February and 20 February, and NHS England says the patients who died in hospital are positive for Covid-19.

All deaths are recorded by the date of death rather than the day on which the deaths were announced.

The organization also says that the numbers may change, especially in the last few days, as confirmation of more deaths may be received at a later stage. The figures for each NHS trust for February so far can be seen below.

On Sunday, a further 258 people who tested positive for coronavirus died in hospital in England nationwide, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 81,304, NHS England said.
