280 people tested positive for COVID-19 added Iowa total

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – According to new data on Sunday, more people who tested positive for the new coronavirus were added to the running total of the state.

By 10:30 a.m., the Iowa Department of Public Health said 280 additional cases had been reported to the state since the same time Saturday morning, bringing the total of Iowa to 342,743 people since the pandemic. The state no longer monitors the number of people considered recovery.

No new deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported to the state in the past 24 hours. The total number of people who died in Iowa from the virus is 5,633.

160 people are hospitalized in Iowa due to COVID-19, a net decrease of 22. 40 of the people are in intensive care units, a net decrease of one. 18 of the patients require the use of a ventilator, a net increase of one. In the past 24 hours, 29 people have just been admitted to Iowa hospitals, a rate that has been somewhat lower than in the past few days.

A total of 1,076,880 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far in Iowa, an increase of 45,818 since the same time Friday. 394,565 people completed their vaccination course, either through the two-stroke vaccines or the one-shot vaccine Johnson & Johnson.

The first tests of 1,546 individuals were reported to the state in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate for this group of tests was 18.1%. A total of 1,566,314 individuals have been tested for the virus since the pandemic began.
