2022 VW ID.6 unveiled with space for seven and two electric motors

Volkswagen’s electric offensive is in full swing and the ID.6 is the largest member of the company’s dedicated EV series. The pure electric sports utility vehicle is available exclusively in China and is a bigger brother of the global ID.4, and just like the five-seater model, it is available locally in two separate versions.

VW’s joint venture with FAW will manufacture the ID.6 Crozz, while the other joint venture with SAIC will be responsible for the ID.6 X. Mechanically it is virtually identical, with the most striking changes being suggested by the slightly different LEDs. headlights. and taillights along with unique bumpers. Both remain fairly similar to ID.4, with the obvious exception of the larger footprint as indicated by the larger quarter glass.

Like the ID.3 and ID.4, the new EVs drive on the VW Group’s MEB platform shared with the Skoda Enyaq iV, as well as the newly launched Audi Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-Tron. To accommodate the third row, VW stretched the ID.6 to 4,876 millimeters (192 inches), making it nearly 300 mm (11.8 inches) longer than its little brother.

Most of the piece is in the wheelbase and now measures a spacious 2,965 mm (116.7 in), which is still slightly shorter than that of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (3,000 mm / 118.1 in). VW will sell the ID.6 in China with a choice between six or seven seats, while the size of alloy wheels will vary between 19 and 21 inches.

The base model will meet a single electric motor mounted at the rear, developing 177 horsepower (132 kilowatts). It will be faster for 100 to 100 km / h (100 km / h) in 9.3 seconds or two tenths of a second if buyers upgrade to the 201 hp (150 kW) version. Go for the dual engine model and the power rises to 302 hp (225 kW) and 310 Newton meters of torque, which is good for a sprint in 6.6 seconds.

We expect this twin-engine four-wheel drive configuration to be installed in the newly teased ID.4 GTX. The logic tells us that the smaller model will be faster given the lower weight, as the ID.6 tilts the scale at 2,280 kilograms (5,026 pounds). Both the Crozz and X versions of the seven-seater electric SUV will be electronically limited to 160 km / h.

The ID.6 is offered with a basic 58 kWh battery and a larger 77 kWh package, with enough juice for 436 and 588 kilometers respectively. Keep in mind that these ranges are based on the China NEDC, so if the electric SUV ever gets to the United States and / or Europe, the official range will differ significantly.

By 2023, VW will introduce no less than eight models with ID badges in their quest to represent 50 percent of its annual sales by fully electric vehicles by the end of the decade.
