2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS debuts with fresh face, new steering wheel

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 4MATIC comes with a refresh that gives the coupe-inspired sedan an updated look and custom technology. Sales in the United States will begin in early 2022 and the company is not yet discussing prices.

The 2022 CLS is now standard with the AMG Line style package on the outside containing various side sills and pieces of glossy black finish. The sedan carries a revised front bumper with a more fluid design for the inlets in the lower fascia, and the front divider is now chrome. The custom grille gets a three-dimensional Mercedes-Benz star pattern with a chrome glass surface. The LED headlights are bright on the outside of the corner, rather than being the current model orange. At the rear there are chrome, trapezoidal exhaust points. A simulated distributor runs between the pipes.

Starling Blue Metallic is now an exterior color. There are also new five-spoke and multi-spoke designs available for the 19-inch wheels. The 20-inch pieces get color options Tremolite Gray or High Gloss Black.

Inside, the 2022 CLS has a custom steering wheel with capacitive sensors to control the vehicle’s functions, and it has a Nappa leather cover. Buyers have the extensive choices of Open Pore Brown Walnut and High-Gloss Gray Wood. Two-tone Neva Gray / Magma Gray and Sienna Brown / Black are new leather upholstery choices.

The CLS 450 gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with an integrated soft hybrid system for starter generator. The combustion engine produces 362 horsepower (270 kilowatts) and 500 Newton-meters. The starter generator can contribute up to 21 hp (16 kW) and 250 Nm (torque). The drive goes through a nine-speed automatic to a four-wheel drive system.

Mercedes’ announcement of the changes only addressed the CLS 450 4MATIC. The company asked him about other variants Motor1.com: “By facelift, the 2022 CLS will be available exclusively in the US as the CLS 450 4MATIC.”
