2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer debut with space and style

We’ve known for several years about the return of the Jeep Wagoneer, and the American carmaker teased us last year with the Grand Wagoneer Concept – which looked suspiciously production-ready. It turns out that the show car was a thinly disguised version of the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, which officially launched today as some complete SUVs built to take the brand into larger and more premium segments.

Between the GW concept and the production Wagoneer family, however, Jeep obscured car sinkers by unveiling the Grand Cherokee L, a mid-size SUV with long wheelbase, with three rows of seats. The next Cherokee first arrives in L-shape, with a standard wheelbase coming next year. To resolve any confusion, drive the Grand Cherokee with two-row 2022 and Grand Cherokee L with two-row 2021 on a mid-size SUV platform – think of Honda Passport and Pilot, Ford Explorer and Dodge Durango – while the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in 2022 gets a body build, three rows of seats and a full size capacity.

Starting at $ 57,995, the Wagoneer will be square against full-size SUVs such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia – all of which cost a fair amount less, but are not standard with leather. Meanwhile, the $ 86,995 Grand Wagoneer gets a nicer interior, larger V8 engine, standard four-wheel drive and a revised style to make the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Lincoln Navigator and Lexus LX (against that list, only the LX cheaper) .). The distinction of the Jeeps is the leading third driving and loading space, up to £ 10,000 towing capacity, and some off-chops are expected from the grille.

A new Jeep family

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer bring the off-road carmaker to two very new segments, without sacrificing four-wheel drive capability for passenger space and excellent interiors. Both are available in three trim levels (Series I, Series II and Series III), with seating for up to eight, standard leather upholstery, very active driver assistance technology and the best class cargo space.

They also share great, imposing styling. The new SUVs, which are freely borrowed from the Grand Wagoneer concept, have an upright stance with a forward sliding grille, almost vertical hatch and large side windows. Jeep’s distinctive cooling slats are LED headlights – on the whole, the wing-like grille and lighting structure are reminiscent of the instrument panel’s shape of both models, as well as the rear lighting range on the Grand Wagoneer. A subtle shoulder line runs 360 degrees around the entire vehicle, reminiscent of the original Wagoneer’s two-box shape.

On any SUV, a thin strip of clear finish extends from the sloping corner of the A-pillar and bends around the entire roof before tumbling against the opposite A-pillar. The Grand Wagoneer adds a U-shaped metal finish that wraps around the side windows. Further distinction between the two is revised badges – the Wagoneer gets a logo on the hood, while the Grand Wagoneer is integrated into the grille. Both get Wagoneer or Grand Wagoneer word marks on the front door (which contains a patriotic American flag emblem), as well as matching badges on the hatch. The Grand gets a bright phase of a Liquid Chrome exterior for a more premium look.

Inside, Jeep designers have tried to pay homage to the original Wagoneer via a two-spoke steering wheel and horizontal HVAC outlets, but it’s clearly a very modern SUV. Digital instrument clusters are standard (10.3 inches on the Wagoneer and 12.3 inches on the Grand), and large mid-touch screens visually float above a wing-shaped dashboard – the Grand Cherokee L uses the same motif with great effect. Nappa leather is standard on all Wagoneer versions, as well as the Grand Wagoneer Series I. Series II and Series III versions of the GW become even richer Palermo leather to match with the luxurious image of the nameplate.

Both Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer drive at a wheelbase of 123.0 inches, with a total length, width and height of 214.0, 83.6 and 75.6 inches respectively. The Wagoneer family has 2.1 inches of extra space between the front and rear axles compared to the Chevy Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade, and the Jeeps are 3.3 inches longer in total. The Tahoe and Escalade are 5.4 inches wider. Nevertheless, with all three rows in place, the Jeeps boast 27.4 cubic feet of cargo volume, compared to 25.5 cubic feet for the GM sports equipment. The total passenger volume is 179.6 cubic feet for the Wagoneer and 168.4 for the Escalade – the 2021 Tahoe is TBD.

Waens, Ho!

The Jeep Wagoneer has a V7-liter V8 with a light hybrid capacity, with 392 horsepower and 292 kilowatts and 548 newton-meters. An eight-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive are standard, but Jeep also offers the Wagon One one of three different four-wheel drive systems. Quadra-Trac I is a full-time single-speed unit, while a two-speed gearbox appears on Quadra-Trac. At the top of the heap is Quadra-Drive II, which gets a two-speed transmission and an electronically limited sliding range that responds faster than the standard mechanical LSD.

A robust body-on-frame structure offers towing capacity up to £ 10,000 with rear or four-wheel drive. A standard short / long-arm front suspension and five-link rear suspension that help ease the ride, with coil springs and monotube shocks in all four corners. Jeep’s Quadra Lift air suspension is optional, bringing the maximum ground clearance to 10.1 inches – a still impressive 8.3-inch clearance appears below the standard steel springs. The available Advanced All Terrain Terrain package provides the protection of the chassis of four steel slide plates to the Jeep.

Despite the grid of equipment, the off-road carmaker decides not to give the Wagoneer a ‘Trail Rated’ license plate, perhaps because of its rather significant footprint. The size of the size is a large cabin with standard leather seats and seating for seven or eight passengers, depending on the standard second row seat or optional captain’s seats. The third row is supposedly big enough for adults, and we believe it. Jeep claims 39.0 inches of headroom and 36.6 inches of legroom, which compares well with the Ford Expedition (37.3 and 36.1 inches) and Chevy Tahoe (38.2 and 34.9 inches).

Uconnect 5 infotainment is standard on the Wagoneer, displayed on a 10.1-inch touch screen. A 10.3-inch screen serves as the instrument cluster on all Wagoneers, while an optional 10.3-inch screen appears at the bottom of the middle stack at higher trim levels to control HVAC and other convenience features. Uconnect 5 is one of the easiest-to-use infotainment systems on the market, although this is the first time it has fallen under climate control obligations. We hope the split screen setup is more user-friendly than similar Audi and Land Rover systems.

A large entrance

To distinguish the Grand Wagoneer from its sibling is a larger, more powerful 6.4-liter V8 that delivers 471 hp and 351 kW (617 Nm), which celebrates it with an eight-speed engine to Quadra-Trac II – send. wheel drive with a two-speed transmission. The spec card gives a mockery of the 420-hp Cadillac Escalade and 450-hp Lincoln Navigator’s standard rear-wheel drive layouts, though both get a 10-speed engine to use. They may need these extra gears, as both are power off compared to the Jeep (although the Navigator does have a lot more torque, at 691 Nm).

An air suspension that facilitates boarding and loading height when parked is standard (and is expected, at its high starting price of $ 86,995), and lowers the SUV with speed to deflect wind resistance a bit and space down to 10, 1 inch ground clearance. That said, we find it hard to believe that someone who spends 90 big bucks on an SUV will take it off-road. These people are likely to be much more interested in comfort and technology in the interior, which the Grand Wagoneer promises to deliver in 2022.

Captain chairs come standard in the first two rows of seats, with a fixed center console that is that of the front row. Remember, this is second row, not second class. That said, large families can opt for a bench seat if they need seating for up to eight. Extensive use of real wood and aluminum finishes helps the Jeep compete in this rare class of vehicle, and its craftsmanship looks at least equal to its local competition. What’s more, the Grand Wagoneer also gets adjustable ambient lighting, which gives it a beautiful look at night.

In addition to the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the 12.0-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, the Grand Wagoneer also offers an available 10.3-inch productivity screen to the right of the dashboard. It offers a number of “co-pilot” features, allowing the driver to focus on the road while the front passenger finds navigation destinations, plays audio and adjusts vehicle settings. Furthermore, the screen can display a real smartphone mirror, enabling the passenger to do things like answer emails, play videos and games and access social media. A privacy filter keeps the driver’s screen obscured, which limits distraction.

And passengers in the second row also come to the pleasure, with some 10.1-inch entertainment screens mounted on the top of the front seat. They each have access to different audio and video sources, including a Fire TV feature in the car that syncs with your own Amazon account to stream movies and TV shows directly to the Grand Wagoneer. On sport utility vehicles with buckets at the rear, a 10.3-inch comfort screen also appears on the center console.

Technologies

In addition to the Uconnect 5 infotainment system and its accompanying screens and productivity features, the Jeep Wagoneer family will be one of the first Stellantis products to offer hands-free Active Driving Assist, featuring lane-centering technology, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and forward collision warning. Specifications are not immediately known, but we predict that it will be available on the Grand Wagoneer, as well as perhaps the Wagoneer Series III. This is a late availability feature that should arrive before the end of the year after Cadillac’s excellent improved Super Cruise.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagon inside information

The Wagoneer Series III and all Grand Wagoneer models come standard with McIntosh sound, a first-come-first-served car known for high-quality stereo and speaker systems. The base McIntosh MX950 offers 19 speakers (one of which is a 10-inch subwoofer) and 950-watt amplifier, which should provide enough sound for most listeners. True sound sensors want to enter the Grand Wagoneer Series III, which comes standard with an MX1375 Reference entertainment system – 23 speakers, 1,950 watts of power, and immersive 3D sound processing for clear and lifelike sound. MX1375 will also be optional in the Grand Wagoneer Series I and II.

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are already available for pre-sale bookings, with the first delivery of customers closer to summer. Those looking for the best that Jeep has to offer can opt for the Grand Wagoneer Obsidian which is available late, featuring black finished 22-inch wheels and ‘Dark Onyx’ metal exterior accents, as well as many luxurious features. The Obsidian starts at $ 98,995, or $ 12,000 more than the basic Grand Wagoneer and a whopping $ 41,000 more than the normal Wagoneer. These are quite a few coins, but Jeep is clearly focusing on a higher socio-economic sphere with its latest models.
