2022 BMW M5 CS unveiled

BMW is postponing a faster, more powerful version of its M5 sedan, the carmaker announced on Tuesday. Called the M5 CS, it has 627 horsepower – ten more than the M5 competition – and a recorded 0-60 time of just 2.9 seconds. According to the company, it is the fastest and most powerful car BMW has ever built.

Like the hardcore M2 CS, the M5 CS is at 11, which puts comfort and liveability aside for the best track performance. BMW says it has cut £ 230 off the M5’s row weight, thanks to reduced sound attenuation and a range of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic parts, including the roof, hood, splitter, spoiler, distributor and mirror caps. Other exterior changes include hood openings, red-painted brake flaps for the standard carbon-ceramic brakes, and a bronze finish on the kidney grids, license plates and the 20-inch forged alloy wheels.

The best changes, of course, are the updates that lurk beneath it. That extra 10 horsepower comes from a new tune applied to the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 under the hood. The highest torque remains the same at 553 lb-ft, but it is now available from 1800 to 5950 rpm – 90 rpm more than before. Like the normal M5, it sends power to all four wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a tricky AWD system with three modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD. Top speed is 190 km / h.

That extra thrust is backed by stiffer engine mounts, 10 percent stiffer springs, stiffer drawbar ball joints and a stiffer rear swing bar. There is also a 0.2 inch drop in ride height and more negative front end. The standard adjustable dampers have been adapted for the new suspension pieces as well as the free Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

In addition to the normal choice of M5 colors, CS buyers also have two specially selected BMW Individual colors to choose from: Frozen Brands Hatch gray metal and Frozen Deep green metallic, the latter of which can be seen in the photos above. Inside there are seats with carbon bucket in front and two individual seats for the rear passengers (the middle seat has been removed). All four seats printed a map of the Nürburgring on the headrests.

Production of the 2022 BMW M5 CS will begin in March 2021. The base price is $ 142,995 including destination, a premium of $ 30,000 above the M5 competition. The company will not announce at this time how many units have been allocated to the US, but says it will start arriving at retailers in the second half of 2021. If we look at the fat price tag and niche segment, we bet there is a win ‘many of these cars are not available. Call your dealer now better if you want one.
