Audi unveiled some new electric crossovers on Wednesday: the 2022 Q4 E-Tron and Q4 E-Tron Sportback. Their addition to Audi’s range reduces the entry price for an Audi electric vehicle by more than $ 20,000.
The two EVs will hit U.S. retail parties by the end of 2021 with an initial MSRP of less than $ 45,000, Audi says. And it is before the federal tax incentive that the price could effectively drop another $ 7,500.

The two models are essentially twins, and the Sportback version is aimed at customers who are interested in sacrificing some trunk space for a roof that slides backwards at an angle. According to Audi, they are about the same size as its gas-powered Q5 SUV.
These are Audi’s fourth and fifth battery-powered vehicles for the US market, after the larger E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback crossovers and the E-Tron GT sedan. An E-Tron of 2021 will cost you at least $ 66,000.

The entry-level Q4 40 E-Tron can drive about 250 kilometers at a cost, according to Audi’s estimate. The range puts it in the same wheelhouse as many other EVs on the market, but behind Tesla, whose ‘Long Range’ Model Y crossover has an EPA-estimated range of 326 miles.

There is also a Q4 50 E-Tron and a Q4 50 E-Tron Sportback, which is equipped with an extra motor that drives the front wheels. These models have 295 horsepower, compared to about 200 versions.

Audi did not release figures for the twin-engine Q4 models, but said it would be almost as efficient as the single-engine version, thanks to a system that only turns on four-wheel drive when extra power or traction is required.

Inside, buyers get a standard 10.1-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and those who want more can opt for a larger 11.6-inch screen.
Audi also presents an augmented reality show that shows driver assistance and navigation information as if it were floating in front of the windshield. A

The duo of lower-cost EVs are all part of Audi’s plan to electrify 30% of its global electricity (ie fully electric or hybrid) by 2025. Audi says it plans to have more fully electric models on the US market than any other luxury brand by the end of 2021 – and that’s making good progress towards that goal. BMW currently only sells the i3 hatchback, while Mercedes-Benz does not yet sell any EVs in the US at all.
