The rollout of the much anticipated Ford Bronco in 2021 has hit a speed bump.

Ford announced Thursday it is recalling 1,666 Bronco Sport models over rear suspension components that may not have been fitted properly, just months after the first vehicles were delivered at the end of 2020.

“The affected Ford Bronco Sport vehicles of 2021 are manufactured with rear suspension modules that may not be completely attached to the underframe. Rear suspension modules with loose or missing bolts can affect the vehicle’s stability, which increases the risk of an accident, and can lead to a reduced impact behind accident performance, which increases the risk of injuries, ”the carmaker said in a press release.

Ford said the vehicles in question were built between July and November last year at the Hermosillo plant in Mexico. It is not aware of the faulty bolts that cause any incidents or injuries.

In January, Ford recalled a small number of Bronco Sports and other models because they did not have the right amount of lubricant in the rear-wheel drive, which could cause the rear axle to grip.

The back-to-back memories echo from the infamous launch of the new Ford Explorer from the Blue Oval in 2019. Ford spent about $ 1 billion upgrading a factory in Chicago to build the Explorer, but still thousands of models had to be sent to a factory in Michigan ‘for remanufacturing’, Bloomberg reported in 2019. By the time they reached customers, many explorers were suffering from quality problems.

However, those memories are bumps in the road for an otherwise slippery roll out of one of Ford’s most anticipated vehicles to date.

The rugged SUV – which has multiple models, lots of customization options, removable doors and roof panels, and cute charm – quickly raked in a lot of discussions and very well stole the Jeep Wrangler’s thunder in the off-road.
