20 LGBTQ inclusive programs and movies we bing in 2020

In a year in which binge-watching has become a way of life for many people, those who include TV shows and movies that include LGBTQ have a variety of new content to choose from while searching.

As 2020 draws to a close, we have NBC Out’s followers on Facebook and Twitter to share their favorites with us. Here are some of the many titles they have enjoyed this year, along with some of our own favorites.

‘The Boys in the Band’

Like the 1968 eponymous Tony Award-winning play, Ryan Murphy’s Netflix adaptation of “The Boys in the Band” spends more than one night in one apartment in the late ’60s where a group of gay men gathered to celebrate a birthday . .

“My message to young people is that this film can guide you, keep an eye on you, to remind you of who you are, who you came from, what the ancestors went through and why we should all finish our tails, never to go not back, “said actor Robin de Jesus, who plays Emory in the film, this year.

‘Star Trek: Discovery’

This CBS All Access series, currently in its third season, follows the crew of the USS Discovery on various adventures as they patrol space. Earlier this year, the series made a franchise history by introducing the first transgender and non-binary characters.

‘Small fires everywhere’

The Hulu series “Little Fires Everywhere” is based on Celeste Ng’s bestselling novel of the same name and follows two mothers in the nineties whose lives become intertwined when they live under the same roof. Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon both star and produce the drama, which features an LGBTQ storyline.

‘Love, Victor’

This Hulu series follows the 2018 movie “Love, Simon”, the first gay teen romantic comedy made by a major Hollywood studio. The show focuses on the coming of age of a Latino high school student raised in a religious working class family.

‘A secret love’

Terry Donahue and Pat Henschel lived behind closed doors for seven decades as a couple, carefully trying to hide their same-sex romance from society. The Netflix documentary “A Secret Love” sheds light on the clandestine love story for women and their decision to live out their last chapter as an openly gay couple.

‘Umbrella Academy’

This Netflix superhero show, based on a comic book series of the same name, has mastered two seasons and a third at work. It focuses on seven estranged brothers and sisters with extraordinary powers who are reunited after the death of their father. The latest transgender actor Elliot Page is one of the stars of the series.

‘Half of it’

Straight-A student Ellie is hired by a jock who needs help to win a girl over at their high school. This Netflix show gets complicated as Ellie begins to develop feelings for the same girl.

‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’

Victoria Pedretti plays in this Netflix series as Dani, an American au pair who is tasked with caring for two orphaned children on a British estate. Fans loved the strange love story that developed between Dani and the gardener of the estate in this horror show that takes place during the 1980s.

‘Ammonite’

Oscar winner Kate Winslet plays 19th-century paleontologist Mary Anning, who falls for a rich man (Saoirse Ronan) after she falls ill and is left in the care of Anning. The film is based on a true story, and the letters between the two women were an inspiration for Winslet’s actions, she told Variety.

‘The L Word: Generation Q’

This sequel to the groundbreaking Showtime lesbian drama, “The L Word,” which aired from 2004 to 2009, explores the lives and loves of foreign women in Los Angeles. “Generation Q” brings back some of the original characters and adds several newer, more diverse roles to the mix.

“Disclosure”

Transgender activist and actress Laverne Cox was executive produced for this Netflix documentary that explores more than 100 years of transgender people portrayed on screen.

‘Schitt’s Creek’

Moira played by Catherine O’Hara, Alexis played by Annie Murphy, Johnny played by Eugene Levy, and David played by Dan Levy in the final season of ‘Schitt’s Creek’.Pop TV

This year’s sixth and final season made fans mourn this Canadian sitcom over a wealthy family being forced to move to a small rural town after losing everything. The show has won nine Emmy Awards this year.

‘Happiest season’

Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Aubrey Plaza and Dan Levy play in this holiday rom-com from Hulu. Stewart’s character, Abby, plans to host her friend (Davis) with her family at Christmas, but things change when Abby finds out that the woman she loves is not out of her family.

‘Teenage Bounty Hunters’

In this Netflix comedy series, twin sisters with teens work with a veteran hunter to take down criminals in their southern city. While the show has many vocal fans on Twitter – and a glowing score of Rotten Tomatoes – it was canceled after one season, according to Deadline.

‘Wynonna Earp’

“Wynonna Earp” follows Wyatt Earp’s great-granddaughter as she “fights demons and other creatures” and “brings the paranormal to justice”, according to SyFy. Now in its fourth season, this Canadian series has several female characters.

‘Uncle Frank’

This Amazon Prime movie follows the life of a teenager who leaves her rural hometown to study at New York University, where her uncle Frank works as a professor. She finds out he is not only gay, but lives in secret with his partner. After the death of Frank’s father, he reluctantly returns with his niece to their southern hometown where he finally faces the trauma with which he ran away.

‘Euphoria’

This teen drama series stars actress and singer Zendaya and transgender model and actress Hunter Schafer as their characters ‘navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media’, according to HBO. Zendaya, 24, won an Emmy this year for her performance, becoming the youngest to win Best Leading Actor in a Drama.

‘Pose’

Ryan Murphy’s hits FX show “Pose” highlights the struggle of trans-colored women in a series that takes place in the late 1980s in the Black and Latinx ballroom scene in New York. The award-winning show, starring trans actresses Indya Moore and Angelica Ross, made Emmy’s history last year when Billy Porter became the first openly gay man to win the Best Leading Actress in a Drama.

‘The politician’

Ryan The Murphy’s “The Politician” follows a young ambitious student during his political campaigns as he draws attention to becoming president. The comedy series, starring Ben Platt and Gwyneth Paltrow, was applauded for including quirky characters without making their sexuality or gender identity a defining trait. Season two was released on June 19 on Netflix.

‘Batwoman’

‘Batwoman’ follows lesbian Kate Kane as she fights bad guys in the streets of Gotham. The first season Ruby Rose plays as Kane / Batwoman, but Rose decides to leave the CW series in May. Javicia Leslie took over the title role for season two, starting on January 17th.
