We are approaching the year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the fatigue of the pandemic is causing people to lose it, ready to return to normal life in any way. With vaccines in operation nationwide, people are doing everything and anything to skip lines or to get a dose in hand. People camp until late at night at vaccination sites to see if they can get a dose that expires or is thrown out because it is already open, which works for some, but others try other methods.

According to ABC 13, two women in Florida went to another extreme and dressed as older women to try to get the vaccine as a member of the 65-year-old crowd.

Dr. Raul Pino, the director of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, said the women arrived at a vaccination site, “dressed as grandmothers” in hoods, goggles and gloves, but were turned away. It looks like the women were in their twenties, he told reporters.

Pino said the young women would come to their second dose of the vaccine, and had valid vaccination cards from their first dose. Pino did not know how they first got through the vaccination process. He indicated that a second time there was a problem with the identification of women.

As desperation for the vaccine grew, many vaccination sites began to increase their safety.

“This is the hottest commodity out there right now,” said Dr. Pino explains. “We have to be very careful with the funds and the resources we provide.”
