2 Spirit agents hurt, arrest passengers after fight in Detroit, says airline

ROMULUS, Mich. – Two Spirit Agents injured, two passengers were arrested and another was quoted at the weekend after a business dispute at Detroit Metro Airport, says the airline.

According to Spirit Airlines, “three passengers attacked our agents without provocation.”

The incident took place on Sunday while the passengers were tries to board flight 646 from Detroit to Atlanta, according to Spirit.

When the agents ask the passengers to verify that their suitcases are in order before boarding, the passengers become belligerent, according to the airline officials.

Officials tried to defuse the situation but were “physically assaulted” when they closed a door to stop the passengers from boarding, Spirit officials said.

One of the agents was taken to a nearby hospital after the incident, airline said.

“All of us at Spirit wish the agents a speedy recovery and thank them for their courage and professionalism,” the airline said in an email. “We also thank law enforcers for responding quickly and arresting those involved in the attack. This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place at airports or any other operating venue. We will not tolerate any abusive behavior of any kind, and these passengers will be prohibited from traveling further with Spirit. Further questions on this incident should be referred to law enforcement. ”

Later, Spirit released an update that two passengers were arrested while the third was quoted and released.
