2 mothers arrested for refusing to quarantine at a hotel after undergoing breast surgery

Two Irish women have been arrested for allegedly refusing to go to a quarantine hotel after returning from a medical tourism trip in Dubai.

Kirstie McGrath, 30, and Niamh Mulreany, 25, left the United Arab Emirates and arrived at Dublin Airport on Friday, April 2, according to the Independent.ie – an Irish national news agency.

The refusal to go to a quarantine hotel apparently landed the couple at Ballymun Garda station in Santry, Dublin.

McGrath and Mulreany are reportedly charged with violating the country’s current health care law.

At the end of March, the Irish health authorities announced that there would be compulsory hotel quarantine for travelers arriving from countries determined to be a ‘significant risk’. The United Arab Emirates is included in this list of 84 countries.

“Any passenger who has been in one of these category 2 countries for the past 14 days, even if it is only through one of these countries and even if he is still on the air, it is legally obligatory to go to a designated facility ) in quarantined travel guidelines published on the Department of Foreign Affairs reads. “This applies even if the passenger receives a negative RT-PCR test result after arriving in the state. There are very limited exemptions from this requirement. “

According to the Independent.ie, McGrath and Mulreany appeared before Tallaght District Court on Saturday, April 4, before Judge Miriam Walsh. Their lawyer, Michael French, said the two women were in the United Arab Emirates for breast augmentation and were not aware of the mandate for quarantine in the hotel.

According to the resource Real Self for plastic surgery, recovery from breast augmentation surgeries usually takes about one to two weeks. Meanwhile, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons says the average recovery takes about six weeks.

Walsh reportedly questioned whether the surgeries were necessary. Meanwhile, Irish police testimony said authorities took two hours to explain the mandatory quarantine to the two women.

French defended McGrath and Mulreany on the basis that they were trying to return to their children and had already taken three coronavirus tests that were negative. He also disputes the constitutionality of the mandate as people diagnosed with COVID-19 are allowed to quarantine at home instead of at a hotel.

The British Broadcasting Corporation estimated that a 12-day stay for a single adult would cost about $ 2,231.35 when the hotel quarantine mandate was first introduced in March.

Failure to comply with this mandate could result in a fine of $ 2,349.73 or a month in prison, according to the BBC.

Recent posts by social media users show that the public remains divided over the issue.

“This is a dangerous ‘law’ that a dictator can impose. There is no logic to it, it is selective interference from people,” one Twitter user wrote. “People with C-19s who do not travel can stay in their own homes. Our ‘awake’ government is using the medieval methods of the dark ages to appease the zealots.”

Meanwhile, another Twitter user wrote: “They were not worried about their children when they did tits in Dubai, a fair game for the judge because he did not take any shit from them.”
