The arrests came while President Joe Biden was in Camp David.
According to a spokesman for the US Secret Service, two people were arrested over the weekend on charges of weapons near the White House.
The unidentified couple approached Secret Service officers near 15th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC, just before 5:30 p.m. One of the individuals disclosed the possession of a weapon and was immediately detained, the spokesman said.
The second person revealed the location of an additional weapon in a nearby vehicle. Secret service officers located the car and seized the weapon, the spokesman said.
The first person was arrested for possession of a BB rifle, while the second person was arrested for carrying a gun without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of unregistered ammunition , according to the spokesman.
“In the course of the encounter and the subsequent arrests, the individuals posed no immediate danger to any protective secret service,” the spokesman told ABC News at the end of Sunday.
ABC News contacted the Metropolitan Police Department for additional information.
The arrests took place while President Joe Biden was on his first presidential visit to Camp David, the major refuge for U.S. leaders in the mountains of northwestern Maryland.
